In 1987 the first state conference of social workers associated with voluntary blood donation in the state of West Bengal was held at Ramakrishna Mission Loka Shiksha Parishad, Narendrapur near Kolkata. Of the various topics discussed at the conference one important one was the introduction of a structured course titled “Social Service – Blood Donor Motivation and Recruitment” for workers and volunteers of the districts and sub-divisional organisations spread all over the state, as it would enrich the workers and volunteers with the knowledge of their field of work. So a structured course of nine lectures spread over three days along with project work was formulated. The faculty of this course is provided by well trained teachers of the Association. On completion of the course, a terminal written examination is held and successful candidates are given certificates of passing the examination. The candidates who are placed first, second, third and fourth in this examination are also awarded medals. In the year under report seventeen such courses could be organised at different centers of the state
