Leela Moolgaokar, from TATA family, is called to be the pioneer of Blood Donation Movement in India. She was the instrumental in starting the Federation of Bombay Blood Bank in 1980 with an idea of evolving uniform code of conduct regarding collection, distribution and research and development of blood banking. She became the chairman of the TATA relief Committee in 1961 and took the pivotal role in Koyna earthquake. Her contribution in Bihar Flood relief and Maharashtra draughts in 1972. It remains continue in tidal wave catastrophe in Andhra Pradesh during 1977 and 1992 flood in Raigad district. She died on 20th May that year.
AVBD West Bengal is remembering her since 1993 organizing a seminar on Self-Motivation by eminent Social Activist. This year Smt. Tanwima Dhar who is now holding the post of General Secretary of Federation of Voluntary Blood Donors Organisation West Bengal was invited to speak on Self Motivation. The Seminar was held at Iudumati Sabhagriha at Kolkata.
